πŸ“· The new Monitor

Monitor is now a cozy nursery. It has a warm Day look and a deep, dim Night look that is easy on sleepy eyes. It follows your device's setting, or you can pick one with the πŸŒ— button at the top. On a phone the video stays pinned to the top while the controls scroll underneath. On a tablet or a phone turned sideways, the video and the controls sit side by side.

For littles

While your camera is on, a soft glowing light says The Nursery is watching. If you need a moment of privacy, ask for a privacy pause and your caregiver can say yes.

Everyday basics

  • Today is your home page. Littles see their camera, tonight and last night. Caregivers see a tile for each little they watch, with whether the camera is on and any alerts.
  • A bottom bar on phones (Today, Watch, Bedtime, Night, Setup) and a top bar on computers.
  • Search (press /), the Day/Night button, a ❓ help button for the page you're on, and a Tell us button that goes straight to the team.
  • You can install Monitor like an app. On Android and computers, use the Install button. On iPhone and iPad, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen.

Set up in a few steps

Setup walks a little through it:

  1. Camera. Pick the front or rear camera, or a specific one, and see a preview. You can also choose sound only.
  2. Sound. A meter shows the microphone is working. Play a test sound checks your speaker, and that tap also unlocks sound on the device.
  3. Who can watch. Your linked caregivers are listed. You can make invite links for anyone else. An invite is watch and listen only unless you tick Can talk to me. You can change that tick or remove an invite at any time.
  4. Pair a caregiver's phone. Show a QR code once. Your caregiver scans it and their phone remembers your camera's key, so they never see "key missing" again.
  5. Alerts and bedtime. Turn on alerts for this device and an optional bedtime nudge.

Caregivers get a shorter version: pair the device, then set alerts for each little.

Watching takes one tap

Tap Start watching and the picture and the sound start together. There is no second "tap to hear". On iPhone and iPad, keep Monitor open on the screen, because iOS pauses sound when an app is in the background or the screen is locked. If you still hear nothing, check the volume and the ringer switch.

  • Sound only stops the video completely and uses far less data.
  • Talk, typed messages that are read aloud, soothing sounds, lullabies and Vibe sleep programs work as before, but only for linked caregivers and invitees the little allowed to talk. Typed messages are read aloud by the little's device voice.
  • Quick actions (linked caregivers): log a change, mark the little awake, or ask for a diaper check. Each one goes straight into the main site's trackers, and the little's screen shows a short note.
  • Also watching shows who else is looking in.

Bedtime: Nursery standby

Nursery standby is a dim bedtime screen with a clock and the glowing light. In the evening it starts the monitor by itself if your browser already allows the camera. Otherwise it shows one big Bedtime β€” tap to start button. The screen stays awake and fades down after a moment. Tap it to brighten it again.

The optional bedtime nudge is a push before your bedtime (from your schedule on the main site). It opens standby.

Use an old phone as the camera

Camera mode turns a spare phone into a dedicated nursery camera. It uses the rear camera and a black, dim screen. It reminds you to keep the phone plugged in, and has a full-screen button.

Sleep you confirm into your tracker

When a little starts the camera as Night or Nap, Monitor keeps track of when it started and stopped. In the morning, either the little or a linked caregiver checks the times on the Your sleep card, fixes them if needed, and saves them. That puts the sleep into the main site's sleep tracker. The first person to confirm saves it, and it can be edited afterward. Nothing is saved until someone confirms.

Alerts that reach you

  • Push alerts reach caregivers even when Monitor is closed: noise, movement, crying, and the camera stopping unexpectedly. Monitor sends at most one push of each kind every 5 minutes per little.
  • Each caregiver can mute a little or set quiet hours. During quiet hours, alerts still show up in your bell, but your device doesn't buzz.
  • Lock-screen notifications use neutral wording. A push on your lock screen doesn't name the little or say what happened. The details stay inside the app and in your bell. Monitor alerts sent through the main site use the same neutral wording.
  • Device health warnings on the watch screen tell you when the camera's battery is low and not charging, its mic is off, Monitor isn't on screen on the little's device, or its connection is weak.

The Nursery

While a little's camera is on, The Nursery watches over them.

  • The Nursery is watching is the glowing light on the little's screen.
  • The Nursery notices shows short lines when it hears or sees something, like "The Nursery heard you stir at 2:14 πŸŒ™". These lines come from the Nursery, never from a person. Caregivers who are watching see them too.
  • Check-ins appear now and then, but only after the Nursery notices the little is awake. Answers go into the night log.
  • Soothe me when I cry plays a gentle shush, lullaby, heartbeat or rain sound on the little's device when it hears crying.

Morning Summary

After a night or a nap ends, a Morning summary card (or Nap summary) shows how it went: the time in the nursery, wake-ups, how long soothing sounds played, and a simple timeline. Littles see their own. Linked caregivers see one for each little. It links to the sleep on the main site.

It never gives sleep a score and never calls a night good or bad. It just shows what happened.

Privacy pause

A little asks for a pause of 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour. Their linked caregivers get a notification with Approve and Not now. Littles with no linked caregiver can pause straight away.

While a pause is on:

  • Nobody can see or hear the little, on any device or on the Dock.
  • Nobody can talk, send a message or play a soothing sound.
  • Anyone watching sees Paused for privacy.

When the pause ends, the camera comes back by itself. A camera running on a Dock needs to be switched on again.

The night timeline

Night shows the night at a glance: when it started and ended, sounds, movement, crying, soothing, check-ins, who watched, pauses, saved clips and quick actions. Choose Highlights or Everything. Invitees see the night but not care details like changes.

Clips

Pro and Premium caregivers can still save clips by hand. The little is told when a clip is saved.

  • The little can watch every clip saved of them under 🎞️ Clips of me on their Today page, but can't delete them.
  • Caregivers: the caregiver who saved a clip, or any of the little's other caregivers, can delete it. Co-caregivers see each other's clips in ☁️ Cloud Recordings, marked "saved by …". Only the caregiver who saved a clip can download it or mark moments in it.
  • If a caregiver unlinks, the clips they saved of that little are removed from their account. The little and their other caregivers can still watch them until they expire.

The live picture and sound are encrypted in transit to our video server, not end-to-end encrypted. The server passes them only to people allowed to watch, and doesn't record them. Saved clips are stored securely on our server, and are not end-to-end encrypted either.

Solo night mode

For littles without a caregiver, solo night mode keeps a private night log, and the night log never leaves your device. There's no video stream. The Nursery still listens, notices when you stir, checks in only when you're awake, and can soothe you back to sleep. In the morning you get a report with how long you slept, the longest quiet stretch, stirs and cries. If you want, tap Save to my sleep tracker, which sends only the start and end times. You can also invite a trusted person to watch only.
