πŸšͺ Gates and level exams

At the end of every level is a gate. Three keys open it. Turn all three and you walk through a level younger. Nobody can rush a gate, and nobody can be pushed through one.

For littles

The gate has three keys. Finish your lessons, pass your little test, and get signed off. Then you walk through and get a little bit littler!

The three keys

  1. Every stone gold. Every lesson in the level is finished, real-life work included.
  2. You passed. You've passed the level exam.
  3. A sign-off. Your caregiver has signed you off, or, if you're solo, you've signed yourself off with an honest checklist.

Open the gate from the end of your land on the Map to see which keys you've turned.

The level exam

  • The exam opens once you've read every lesson in the level. Your real-life work doesn't have to be finished yet.
  • Each sitting draws 12 questions and 2 short stories from that level's question bank, including questions about your add-ons. Each story counts as much as three questions.
  • The pass mark is 80% at every level.
  • You get one sitting a day. If you don't pass, go back over the lessons you missed and sit it again tomorrow. Nothing is lost.
  • If you close the page mid-paper, Continue my paper brings the same paper back the same day.

Sit the exam

  1. Open the gate and choose Sit the exam.
  2. Answer each question. Some say Pick every one that fits.
  3. Play through each story.
  4. Choose Hand in my paper. You'll see your score and an explanation for each question.

Getting signed off

With a caregiver:

  1. When you think you're ready, choose Ask my caregiver to sign. Every caregiver in your Academy gets a bell; any one of them can sign.
  2. They read the level's checklist and decide.
  3. If a week passes with no answer, you can sign it yourself on the gate page.

Solo: read each line of the checklist and check it only if it's true on ordinary days, then choose Sign it. Every line has to be true.

Walking through

When all three keys are turned, choose Walk through the gate. Miss Honeydew holds a short level-up ceremony for your new level (you can watch it again later from your Baby Book).

Arriving at a new level can also offer that level's habits to set up on the main site. See The Academy and the main site.

At your finish line the last gate is the graduation gate. When its keys are turned, your graduation and forever contract open. See Graduation.

When a caregiver holds you at a level

A caregiver can hold you at your current level for a while. Your lessons stay open, but the gate won't let you through until the hold is released. You get a bell when a hold is placed or released.

If you have more than one caregiver, only the one who placed the hold can release it for the first week; after that, any of them can. If that caregiver leaves your Academy, their hold goes with them.

The monthly grown-up check-in (from Level 4)

From Level 4 the course goes deep enough that the adult underneath gets looked at on purpose, once a month.

  1. When it's due, Today and the Map show Your monthly grown-up check-in. Choose Do my check-in.
  2. Step out of role. Sit at a table and answer a short checklist as the adult you still are: emergencies, consent and limits, access to your ID, money, keys and phone, managing a day alone, your health, your job if you work, and whether you still want this at this pace.
  3. Choose Finish my check-in.

Nobody else sees your answers, including your caregiver. If the check-in is more than a week overdue, new lessons stay closed until you do it. Lessons you've already started stay open.
