The Editor (for Times writers)

The Editor is where stories are written. It is open to Times writers and admins. Other members who open it see Only editors and Times writers may write during beta. If you would like to write for the paper, ask the team through the help desk at caregiverbabyhub.com/support.

Write a story​

  1. Tap ✍️ Editor in the masthead to start a New Story, or tap ✍️ Edit on a published story.
  2. Fill in the fields:
    • Headline
    • Slug (the web address; fixed once a story exists)
    • Section and Edition #
    • Byline (defaults to "Newsroom") and Date
    • Standfirst (summary): the one-line summary
    • Body (Markdown)
    • Author's note (optional): shown on the story as "Why I wrote this"
  3. Check the Preview beside the form.
  4. Tap 💾 Save draft to keep working later, or 📰 Publish to put it live right away. Saving a draft never publishes.

New stories can start from a template, and your drafts are listed for you to reopen. A story cannot be published while it still has TODO placeholders in it.

A date in the future makes the story an Early Edition: Pro and Premium readers can read it before that date.

Add a reader poll​

Under a published story, tap 📊 Add a reader poll. Type the question and one option per line, then tap Create poll. Each story can have one poll.

The Noticeboard​

Writers check new notices on the Noticeboard and tap ✅ Print it or 🗑️ Reject.

Baby of the Week desk​

Open ⭐ Baby of the Week desk from the Editor.

  1. Under 📨 Send an invite, enter a member's username to invite them.
  2. When they submit their interview, it appears in 🗂️ The docket.
  3. Write a short intro, choose the Edition #, and tap 🗞️ Publish the feature. It is published in the Spotlight section.

Letters and hearts​

Letters to the Editor and Hearts Column posts are approved by admins on the Letters and Hearts pages.
