🗺️ Change Map

The Change Map finds real places near you where an adult can actually change: Changing Places rooms, adult changing benches, accessible toilets and private family rooms. It's in the Diaper Bag's 🗺️ Out & About pocket, right after Discreet Changes, at utility.caregiverbabyhub.com/bag/out/change-map.

For littles

Going somewhere new? Type the town and the map finds the comfiest places to get changed. If you've been somewhere, give it stars so the next little knows too.

Before you start​

  • You need to be signed in. The Change Map is a members-only tool, even though most of the Bag works signed out.
  • It's free for everyone. No paid tier needed.

Searching​

Two ways to search:

  • Where are you going? Type a town or city (at least two letters) and tap Search, or press Enter.
  • 📍 Near me right now asks your browser for your location once. If you say no, type a town instead.

The results cover everything within 4 km (about 2½ miles) of the town center or your spot, up to 80 places. The best kinds come first, then nearest first within each kind:

Each place shows its name, kind and distance. It also shows opening hours, an entry fee or limited access when the map has that info. Places marked private aren't listed. Each one has three buttons:

  • 🧭 Directions opens Google Maps with directions to it.
  • 🗺️ Map opens the place on OpenStreetMap.
  • ⭐ I've been here lets you rate it (see below).

If the search finds the town but nothing is tagged nearby, it says so and points you to Discreet Changes, the guide for when there's no good option.

Be honest with yourself about the data​

The places come live from OpenStreetMap, a free map that volunteers build. That's good and bad:

  • Adult changing tables are rare on the map. Very few places anywhere in the world are tagged as having one. Most of your results will be accessible toilets, which usually mean a lockable room with enough floor space to stand and change.
  • Changing Places rooms are common in some countries (the UK, for one) and rare or missing in many others, so you may see none.
  • Coverage depends on local volunteers. A big city usually has plenty. A small town may have almost nothing, and some entries may be out of date.

That's why member ratings matter. They're the layer that tells you whether a place really has room for a grown-up.

Missing somewhere? You can add it yourself at openstreetmap.org. Once the map updates, it shows up here too. (Results are kept for a few hours, so a brand-new edit won't appear right away.)

Rating a place​

Tap ⭐ I've been here on any place and choose any of these:

  • Space: 1 to 5
  • Privacy: 1 to 5
  • Adult bench? Yes, No or Not sure

Then tap Save rating. You get one rating per place. If you rate the same place again, your new answers replace your old ones.

Places with ratings show a line like "⭐ 3 member ratings · space 4/5 · privacy 3.5/5 · adult bench 67% say yes".

Only averages are ever shown. Nobody, including other members, can see who rated which place. Which toilets you've visited is location history, so it stays private.

Your location stays private​

  • We never save where you searched. A town you type is looked up on OpenStreetMap's search by our server, used for that one search, and not stored.
  • Near me sends your location rounded to about 1 km (roughly half a mile), not your exact spot. It's used for one search and then dropped.
  • 🧭 Directions opens Google Maps with the place's location. From there, Google's own privacy rules apply.

When something goes wrong​

  • "We couldn't find that town": check the spelling, or try a bigger town nearby.
  • "The town search is busy" or "The map data service is busy": the free OpenStreetMap servers are under load. Try again in a minute.
  • "Slow down a little": you've searched or rated a lot in one minute. Wait a moment.
  • "Your rating didn't save. Try again?": nothing was saved. Tap Save rating again.
