Scenes, night and guest mode
Scenes through the dayโ
The Dock changes personality on a schedule built from your real wake and bed times on the main site's Daily Schedule.
| Scene | When | What it is like |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | From wake time | Peach light, the routine and the weather |
| Day | Mid-morning on | Chores and activity |
| Evening | Before bed | Dusk light, winding down |
| Night | From bedtime | A dim face for a dark bedroom |
Every colour on the Dock follows the scene, so the whole wall cross-fades when the light changes. A member who never opened the schedule page still gets sensible scenes. A caregiver can give one dock its own times from the corner's Scenes row.
The night face switches on by itself at bedtime. There is no manual "night now" switch. There is a settings toggle for the night face and an override for when night starts.
Nightโ
Night was tuned so it is readable without lighting the room. The first build rendered at about ten percent opacity, near white on white. Now the night palette is dark on purpose and the text stays legible.
In After bedtime settings you can show just a big quiet clock instead of the pages. One tap brings the pages back for a couple of minutes. You can also dim the whole screen after bedtime.
If the night face looks wrong to you, tell the owner through Help whether it looked wrong the moment bedtime hit or only after a few idle minutes. Those are two different things.
Guest modeโ
The "someone just walked in" control. What replaces the Dock is a plain clock. No lock icon, no blur, no hint that says to tap anywhere. It reads as a clock app that is simply what this tablet does. A bystander who taps it gets nothing, because a tap is not the exit gesture.
Getting inโ
Three ways, so it works whatever your hands are doing:
- Tap the ๐ก๏ธ shield at the top.
- Hold the top bar.
- Press Escape.
It is instant. No network, no animation to wait for. It is also sticky. A reload, a crash or a power blip while the guest is still in the room does not reveal the Dock.
Getting outโ
Hold anywhere on the clock face for about a second. A progress bar appears after a short moment so you know it is working. Keep your finger still. Pressing Escape three times always works as well.
In settings you can ask for your account password to come back. Slower, but nobody can poke their way back in. Off means the long press is enough.
Where it livesโ
Settings, then If someone walks in. There you choose what a visitor sees and whether the Dock switches to the clock on its own after a while, for a screen in a room other people walk through.
Guest mode collapses every colour to one grey on purpose. It is a disguise. The one exception is the monitor's red indicator, which stays red so nobody can be watched without seeing it.
